Initial contact
- You are most welcome to make an initial, no obligation, enquiry to discuss the issues that concern you with regards to your garden. Fill in the online form on the "Register Your Interest" page, or email, call, fax or write to us (details on the "Contact Us" page).
If appropriate, we can then arrange an appointment for a consultation visit or you can contact us once you have carefully considered your options.
Consultation visit
- This is the first stage where a fee is charged, as we spend a few hours with our clients discussing the potential and limitations of their garden and therefore impart useful knowledge and experience. Sometimes a visit of this nature is all that is required to enable our clients to make simple adjustments that will improve the balance, movement or proportion of space within the garden.
This is a very important stage if we are assessing the garden for a full design, as we have to listen very carefully to the needs of our client and interpret this in a creative, yet practical way. The lifestyle of the owner is an important consideration. For example, if they are employed full time, more emphasis is placed on evening use in the summer months. The garden would rarely be seen in the winter therefore interest is concentrated around views from windows for weekend enjoyment.
Once we have assessed our client’s requirements, we send a fee estimate for the next stage.
Survey, Analysis and Design
- This stage entails a return visit to carry out a measured, level and photographic survey. A more detailed analysis is taken in order to gather as much information as possible about the site. A scaled survey plan is then drawn up in the studio to enable us to begin the design process. Once a design is complete, printed and coloured, a return visit is arranged to present the design. Although we provide plant names for the main structural plants like trees and hedges, we don’t provide a planting plan until the initial design is approved.
Planting design is an integral part of the design process and has functional, as well as decorative uses in the garden. It is always advisable to consider investing in a planting plan as it is generally the vertical elements in a garden that set the style and therefore it is an important part of the overall design concept.
Cost Estimate/Monitoring
- Our clients may wish to carry out the work themselves, or know someone who is willing to construct the garden. However, in most cases we prepare a schedule and specification and seek cost estimates from contractors we have worked with.
- We also provide a service to monitor work on site. We are not directly responsible for the contractor as we are not permanently on site. However, we agree a specific number of visits at the start of the construction process to approve setting out and ensure that the work is carried out according to the plan and specification.
Planting
- One of the most exciting stages is furnishing the garden with plants. We prefer to be directly involved in the supply and planting process, in all but the largest projects, as it is very satisfying to implement the finishing touches to a design.
Unlike buildings, gardens take time to mature and for the full design to come to fruition. Many clients involve us in long term maintenance when they don’t have a great deal of experience in gardening and want to maximise the full potential of their investment. Not all clients want us involved in every aspect of the stages mentioned above as they have a wealth of experience and knowledge in gardening or construction.
We offer a flexible service that can be tailored to suit your needs and budget.
