Gardens and plants play an important role in our lives…

Profile

Diane Pyper worked for 17 years in a landscape architects practice and qualified in Architectural Technology and Horticulture before embarking in a career in Garden Design. The influence came from a feature in an American Landscape Architecture magazine on gardens designed by Thomas Church.

She set up a successful design business in 1995. New Dimensions is based in Central Scotland and has designed gardens throughout the Lothians, Fife, Tayside, Strathclyde, Ayrshire and the Borders. The company design projects predominantly in the private sector, although continue to work on a variety of commercial projects. Their traditional and modern designs have been featured in the Scottish media.

We offer a flexible design service for any style of garden whether it be a large or small garden, urban or rural garden, back garden, front garden or roof garden.

As well as running a busy design company, Diane pursued another passion and began running recreational courses in Garden Design in 1996 at Oatridge College and then in 2000 at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.

In 1999 she began lecturing on a Garden Design Diploma course, became Course Director in 2001 and Vice Principal of The Pickard School of Garden Design in 2003. In 2006 Diane set up a Diploma in Garden Design at The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.

Diane also runs private classes in garden design and planting design, as well as specialised design workshops for private companies. She also contributes to a regular garden design feature in Scotland on Sunday ‘At Home’ supplement.
